#5 Les Diables de Lleida

The town I live in is extremely small and to be honest, not much is happening over here. Apparently though, every Spanish city, no matter if it's a village or the capital, has a festival during which well, people just party. That is exactly what was happening here since Thursday (Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday - CRAZY!). And now has come the moment when I just have to say: I love Lleida! ;)
The whole program I have not seen and will not talk about either it or parties in general, except of a fact that each event like this one has its own special cups, that I am absolutely in love with!

Les Diables de Lleida
Lleida's Devils is a group that participates in all the cultural events in Lleida by dancing, splitting the fire and entertaining people in general. The tradition of the dances of devils comes from 12th century and is a Catalan thing. They became really popular in the 20th century by doing a correfoc - dancing and playing with fire and fireworks. The name of correfoc comes from 1977, from a group called Diables del Clot and is a typical things to see in Catalunya, right next to los castells.
Los castells Los castells are another tipical thing - they are human piramids. At the university we even have a group that specializes in doing that. The piramids come from the Valencian tradition of finishing a dance (at the festival) with a human construction. Later on it became popular also in Catalunya and looks like this:
In general, Festa Major de Lleida 2015 was amazing! Lots of concerts, churros, bars, people and Erasmus fun! Here's a video of the correfocs and a little advise: don't ever get to close to the fire with your tights on!
Les correfocs!!
